Jake Turney is a London based advertising, lifestyle and portrait photographer and DOP who focus’s largely on people in music and subculture.
Growing up in a noisy musical home, working in music was the clear choice when it came to choosing a path in photography- and for this reason Jake has never found shooting felt like work.
He studied fine art photography at Nottingham Trent- this is where he learned the importance of art history and conceptualisation, which stills informs his work today.
After graduating he moved straight to London, started shooting editorials and then soon began being commissioned for album artworks and press pictures for some of his favourite artists and labels.
Since then he’s taken on a studio in Tottenham and is regularly shooting some of the UK’s biggest music acts including Annie Mac, Tom Misch, Jacob Banks, Seth Troxler and Maribou State.
He differentiates himself from other photographers with his unique and creative lighting styles.
His role as a picture editor on the side of a busy few years shooting has meant he has a critical eye and a focus on trends aesthetically and technically.
Jakes spends his time taking pictures, going to gigs and making hummus.
